Volunteer Program Volunteering in the orphanage is a unique opportunity to experience the rewards of assisting vulnerable children. Disease, the high mortality rate for mothers during childbirth, as well as the short life expectancy in general, leave thousands of children without parents every year. As a result, most of these children are deprived of education and have to find work in restaurants, hotels and factories where they work long hours for very low wages.
Orphanages provide these disadvantaged children with a bed, three meals a day and opportunities to further their education. However, they also need attention, care and love. This is why your help as a committed volunteer can make such a vital contribution to these young lives.
As a volunteer at Ramro Sathi you will be placed either at the orphanage itself or with a local host family and you will spend most of your time with the children assisting them with their day to day routines.
The children are usually between the ages of six to thirteen and will have a basic understanding of English. Your role as a volunteer is to care for and encourage the children as well as helping them with their schoolwork. You will teach them general life skills including health and sanitation. There will also be opportunities for you to organize trips out, play games, or arrange informal classes in music, painting, singing and dancing and all the other activities that children enjoy.
A typical day at the children's home looks as follows:
Assist with breakfast and getting the children off to school in the morning;
Help out with organizing and cleaning up the house;
· Assist the children with their home work after school;
· Play with the children, either just games or educational;
· Read with the children;
· Assist with dinner and getting the children to bed;
· In general, spend time with the children and the caregivers.
We welcome volunteers who could preferably spend at least one month with the children, so that they can get to know you, and you can get to know them.
Working in School
Volunteers will teach Health Education and sports to school
children in a school for about 4 hours each day for six days (Saturday is a day off). They will also be involved in showing and teaching their skill to students. During this period volunteers will have the opportunity to participate in local festivals and get the opportunity to exchange their culture and life style with children. Where there are most of the children will study from poor family in the government school. If you join with children you will have those chances.
Note: we are also running a trekking agency. We will offer volunteers and tourists different activities through our trekking agency. You can also help us in sending tourist to help this orphanage indirectly. We are thinking to make this project in dependant from Nepal how long volunteers can stay:
