OCEAN Nepal HISTORY
The Orphan and Children’s Educational Association of Nepal is a not for profit and Non Governmental Organisation (NGO) which was established in 2005. Ocean Nepal is legally registered with the District Administration Office in Kathmandu under the Act of 2034 BS (CDO registration) #95 – 2062/2063 and is also affiliated with the Social Welfare Council (Affiliation #18314)
Ocean Nepal came into being in response to the changing political situation in Nepal. Internal conflict was tearing the country apart the western region was in a state of terror. As a result many children from already poverty stricken families were left without parents and homes.
Ocean Nepal opened Ramro Sahti orphanage for the child victims of the conflict. The first priority was the immediate need for food and shelter. But it has long been recognized that ‘Band aid emergency relief’ is not the answer to breaking out of the poverty cycle.
Ocean Nepal is committed to the ethos that healthy children, unburdened by poverty at home, will be better placed to benefit from their education and will therefore be in a more advantageous position to make the most of any opportunities open to them. Through education children can play an active role in shaping their own lives, contribute to their communities and promote changes that will benefit their country.
In order for Ocean Nepal to achieve its goals it will need continuous financial and practical support from volunteers, sponsorships and donations.
Target Areas
Ramro Sathi orphanage currently houses children from the Dhading district approximately 120 Kilometers from Kathmandu. The future target areas are other impoverished rural areas of Nepal. |
